Shimano found that the spoke plugs shipped in lieu of rim strips with its Dura-Ace WH-7850-C24-CL wheels have a greater likelihood of producing a puncture due to the surface texture of the rim and the spoke holes coming in contact with the tube. Therefore, Shimano has issued a voluntary recall of the spoke hole plugs.
The wheelset will not be recalled. The fix is to remove the spoke hole plugs and replace them with a 18mm high-pressure rim strip.
Recalled wheels are identified by a model code sticker; recalled wheels have codes printed in white letters on a black background. Wheels with a round silver sticker next to the valve hole are not affected, nor are wheels with the model codes printed in white on a red background.
Consumers with affected wheels can visit their local Shimano dealer to have rim strips fitted at no charge. More information can be found at cycle.shimano.com
