Quebecer Marie-Héléne Prémont has changed her mind about retiring at the end of the 2008 season. The 31-year-old Premont — who in 2007 announced she would hang it up after 2008 — will race the UCI World Cup and world championships.
The news comes after Prémont enjoyed her best-ever season, which saw her claim the 2008 World Cup overall title.
“I am really looking forward to coming back for another season. I feel like I am only getting better and I want to see what more I can do,” Prémont said. “Rocky Mountain was happy for me to ride another year, so it wasn’t too difficult of a decision.”
Prémont told reporters at the 2007 Mont-Ste-Anne round of the UCI World Cup that she was planning to retire after 2008 in order to start a family. Prémont spends her off season as a student of pharmacology at the University of Laval in Quebec, and has one year remaining before graduating.
“Eventually I want to have a family,” Prémont said. “I will have to stop racing one day to do that, but for now I want to focus on school and racing.”
