The Wolf River Rendezvous, 11th race in the 2008 Wisconsin Off Road Series, was the stage for two prodigious victories this Sunday as Cole House and Holly Liske took top honors.
Before joining the U23 Development Team, House was a regular WORS series racer (2002 - 2005). Though he was closely followed throughout the five-lap race by teammates Chris Peariso (Adventure 212; 1:34:11) and Thomas Bender (Adventure 212 / Specialized; 1:34:17), House (1:34:10) maintained his lead for the top spot on the podium, which he last occupied in 2004, at the age of 16.
In the women's field, Holly Liske (Hayes Disk Brakes; 1:33:25) rode to the overall win for the second time this season. Liske, too, is a veteran WORS series racer. She won her first overall title in 1998, at the age of 12. Second place in the Ladies' Elite race went to Abigail Strigel (Polska FDL; 1:36:49), followed by Lisa Krayer (Wildside Velo; 1:40:11) in third.
In the four-lap comp race, Joe Curtes took first place (Big Ring Racing / Garage 864; 1:23:17), followed by Joel Hynes (Stadium Bike / Fat Tire Guides; 1:24:37) and Douglas Pietz (Polska FDL; 1:24:59). Sport racers were led by Justen Piontek of Wabeno, and Paula Liske of Medford, Wisconsin. No stranger to the WORS podium herself, Paula is also the mother of first place ladies Elite finisher Holly Liske.
Cool temperatures and fall colors did nothing to dampen the blazing pace set by riders for the inaugural Wolf River event. The course included a low culvert, several rock gardens, and flowing single track along the banks of the Wolf River. With the final race of the 2008 series approaching, the competition for series standings and cash prizes will be fierce in two weeks at Sheboygan.
